Hidden FEES
Many couples have come to me after their wedding confused as to how their budget surpassed the original amount by 5k! There are many hidden fees that couples should be aware of while planning their wedding—and these do add up.
Postage Stamps: Oversize, awkwardly shaped and bulky invitations can run almost $2 a piece, and many stationers do not advertise shipping costs. To avoid these extra costs, skip the fancy boxed invites or multilayer cards that can bulk up the envelope and the cost!
Overtime Costs: When you sign a contract with a vendor, they are booked for that time period. If your wedding runs a little longer than expected these vendors will charge you per hour for the extended time. I would advise my couples to get their overtime costs in writing ahead of time so that you will know what to expect if you extend the wedding!
Rental Transport: Rental companies do not share their shipping and packaging fees up front. Be sure to ask before signing off on any contracts. Also, if the cost is too large, shop around for a bit. Sometimes you can find a more expensive company that includes delivery in there fee and will save you money overall.
Taxes and Gratuities: These are not necessarily hidden but to remind you that there are taxes and gratuities that you should consider when creating your wedding budget.
Cake Cutting: There are cake cutting fees if you choose to go with an outside vendor. Averages are around $2 to $5 per guest for the cake cutting because workers are responsible for slicing and serving each piece of cake, followed by the need for staff to clean the dishes.
Corkage Fee: When bringing in your own wine, beer, etc., be sure to ask about the corkage fee. Averages are around $1.50 to $3 per bottle that the staff opens.
Cleanup and Breakdown Costs: Couples are always thinking of planning the wedding and what is needed to execute it day-of. One thing they do forget is the budget needed for what happens when it is all over. When booking a venue or renting a space, ask about all additional charges, from garbage removal to cleaning fees, etc. I have seen these fees adding an additional 1k to your budget.
Non-Approved Professionals: Venues can sometimes require you to use vendors for their preferred list; and if you don’t they normally charge a fee.
